Silverdale v Blades
Home

South Staffs Junior Cup Round 1

An excellent all round team performance from The Blades saw them deserved winners in a thrilling Cup tie at Silverdale.
Ricky Sira with a goal in the 5th minute (which was expertly finished) started the ball rolling, Jordan Wright with a fine opportunist goal following some superb team play in the 12th minute and Ricky Sira with his second in the 23rd minute saw Blades rewarded for a great display. Silverdale played their part though and were level at 3-3 going into the break. They hit two good goals (one a superb free kick which no keeper would have saved) and a penalty when Edward Parsons was desperately unlucky to be sent of by a very fussy referee for deliberate handball (him being the last man) which  denied Silverdale a goal scoring opportunity.
So, all square at the break and Blades had to reshuffle and play the second half with 10 men. Unfortunately we had to sacrifice a forward to bring a defender on in place of edward who was having his usual solid game.
To Blades' credit - every single player responded superbly and played as a team to take the game to Silverdale.
Three minutes into the second half, Ryan Stanley was rewarded with a very well taken goal after a strong workmanlike performance in the central midfield again and typically he battled throughout the game.
An excellent finish from Reece Bowen in the 9th minute and very well taken goal from Nathan Moore in the 16th minute saw Blades rewarded. Silverdale hit a fourth  goal midway through the half when Blades didn't clear quickly enough and they added a fifth 2 minutes form time.
Blades however were not going to be beaten and they held strong, produced fine team play and defended very well as a team to deservedly go into the next round.
A number of players could have got man of the match today (Nico with some excellent saves, Joshy O and Moorey with good wing play, defenders for a solid performance) but we came down to two players - Jevo and Stanna for a very polished midfield performance - decision going to Stanna for his driving runs, battling power play and good all round performance.
Massive "well done" to all The Blades players today - you were ALL superb
